1. Acceptance
By downloading, installing or using Obol, or by using obolapp.com, you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, please do not use them. If you use Obol on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you are authorised to accept these terms for it.
2. Who may use Obol
You must be at least 18, or the age of majority where you live, to create an account. Obol is a personal-finance tool for individuals and is not intended for children.
3. What Obol is — and is not
Obol helps you record and understand your own spending. Everything it shows you, including insights and answers from the AI assistant, is informational only.
Obol is not financial, tax, accounting, legal or investment advice; not a bank, payment service, money transmitter or regulated financial institution; and not a substitute for your bank's own records. It does not move, hold or have access to your money. You are responsible for the accuracy of what you enter and for any decision you make.
4. Your account
You are responsible for keeping your credentials secure and for activity under your account. Keep your email address current and verified so you can recover access. Tell us promptly at support@obolapp.com if you believe your account has been compromised.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use Obol for anything unlawful, or to store data you have no right to store.
- Attempt to access another user's data, probe or breach our security, or circumvent any access control or usage limit.
- Reverse-engineer, decompile or attempt to extract our source code or model prompts, except where that restriction is prohibited by law.
- Scrape, resell or redistribute the service, or use it to build a competing product.
- Upload malware, or interfere with the operation of the service for anyone else.
6. Automatic detection and device permissions
Features such as message detection, voice entry, receipt scanning and biometric lock need permissions you grant on your device. They are optional, off until you enable them, and can be withdrawn at any time in your device settings or in the app. You are responsible for having the right to process any message or document you bring into Obol. Detection is a convenience, not a guarantee: it can miss a transaction or misread one, and you should treat your bank's statement as authoritative.
7. AI features
The assistant generates answers from your own records using a third-party AI provider. AI output can be incomplete or wrong. Check anything that matters before you rely on it. We may apply fair-use limits to AI features to keep the service available to everyone.
8. Subscriptions and payment
Obol is free to start. Optional paid features may be offered; where they are, the price, billing period and what is included are shown clearly before you purchase.
Any purchase is made through Apple's App Store or Google Play, and those stores handle billing, renewals, refunds and cancellations under their own terms. We never receive your card details. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled; you cancel through your Apple or Google account settings, not through us. Refunds are at the relevant store's discretion under its policy.
For purchases made on iOS, Apple's Standard End User License Agreement also applies.
9. Your content
Everything you put into Obol stays yours. You grant us only the limited licence needed to host, process and display it back to you, and to operate the features you have turned on. We do not use your financial records to advertise to you or sell them to anyone. See the Privacy Policy.
10. Our content
The Obol name, logo, app, website, and their design and code are ours and are protected by intellectual-property law. These terms grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app for your own purposes — nothing more.
11. Availability
We aim to keep Obol running but do not promise uninterrupted service. We may change, suspend or discontinue features, and may need to take the service down for maintenance. Where a change materially reduces what the app does, we will give notice in the app if we reasonably can.
12. Ending it
You may stop using Obol at any time and delete your account from within the app — see Data Deletion Instructions. We may suspend or terminate an account that breaches these terms or that we must act on by law, and will tell you why where we are permitted to.
13. Disclaimers
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Obol is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be error-free, that detection will capture every transaction, or that AI output will be accurate.
14. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data or goodwill, arising from your use of Obol or from reliance on its insights. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or USD 50.
Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
15. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify us against claims arising from your unlawful use of Obol or your breach of these terms.
16. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top of this page always reflects the current version, and material changes will be communicated in the app before they take effect. Continuing to use Obol after a change means you accept the updated terms.
17. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Arab Republic of Egypt, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Nothing here removes any mandatory consumer protection you have under the law of your own country of residence.
