These Service Terms cover the operation of the Obol service. They sit alongside the Terms of Use, which governs your use of the app generally, and the Privacy Policy, which governs your data. If a conflict arises, the Terms of Use prevails.
1. What the service includes
The Obol service is the mobile app plus the server-side components it depends on: account and authentication, your synced records, and the AI functions that parse entries and answer questions. This website is part of the service for the purposes of these terms.
2. Plans and billing
- Free. Core tracking — manual and voice entry, budgets, bills, insights — is free to use.
- Paid features. Where an optional paid tier is offered, its price, billing period and contents are shown before you buy, inside the app.
- Who bills you. All payments run through the App Store or Google Play under those stores' terms. We never handle or see your card details.
- Renewal and cancellation. Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel, and you cancel through your Apple or Google account settings. Cancelling stops the next renewal; it does not shorten the period you have already paid for.
- Refunds. Handled by Apple or Google under their policies. We cannot issue a refund for a store purchase, but write to us and we will help you raise it.
- Price changes. We will give notice in the app before a price change takes effect for an existing subscriber, and you may cancel before it applies.
- If a paid feature lapses. Your data is never deleted or held hostage. You keep full read access and can export everything; only the paid features stop.
3. Fair use of AI features
Parsing entries and answering questions costs real compute, so AI features carry reasonable usage limits to keep the service available and affordable for everyone. Limits apply per account. We may adjust them, and will show you where you stand in the app rather than failing silently.
Automated or bulk querying of the assistant, resale of its output, and use of the service to build or train a competing product are not permitted.
4. Support
Support is by email at support@obolapp.com and from Settings → Support in the app. A small team reads it. We aim to acknowledge messages within a few business days and prioritise anything involving data loss, billing or security.
Security reports get priority. Please report privately first and give us a reasonable window to fix the issue before publishing.
5. Availability and maintenance
We aim to keep the service running continuously but do not offer a contractual uptime guarantee. Planned maintenance is scheduled for quiet periods where possible. The app remains usable for viewing and entering data during many backend interruptions, and syncs when the connection returns.
6. Changes to the service
We improve the app continuously, which means features change. Where a change materially removes or reduces something you rely on, we will give notice in the app in advance where we reasonably can, and never remove your ability to export your own data.
7. Beta and experimental features
Features marked beta, preview or experimental are provided as-is, may change or be withdrawn without notice, and should not be relied on for anything important. Feedback on them is welcome and is not confidential unless you say so.
8. Your data, portability and retention
- Your records remain yours throughout.
- You can export everything as JSON at any time from Settings, on a free or paid plan.
- Deleting your account deletes the account and cascades through the records we hold — see Data Deletion Instructions.
- If we ever discontinue the service, we will give reasonable advance notice and keep export available throughout the wind-down.
9. Suspension
We may suspend an account that is compromised, that is being used to attack or degrade the service, or that we are legally required to act on. Where we can lawfully tell you why, we will, and we will restore access once the cause is resolved.
10. Third-party dependencies
The service relies on third parties — a hosting and database provider, an AI provider, the two app stores, and your device platform's speech recogniser. An outage or a change at one of them can affect Obol. We choose providers carefully and will say plainly when a problem is upstream rather than ours.
11. Liability
The disclaimers and limitation of liability in the Terms of Use apply in full to these Service Terms and are incorporated by reference.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these Service Terms. The date at the top of this page reflects the current version, and material changes are communicated in the app before they take effect.
